Alan M. Vajda, PhD, is Assistant Professor in the Department of Integrative Biology, University of Colorado Denver. He received a BA in Biology (Science, Technology, and Society) from Pomona College, an MA Environmental Toxicology, University of Colorado at Boulder, and a PhD in Environmental Endocrinology, also from CU at Boulder. |
Toilet to Tap. Dr. Vajda's research interests are poised at the intersection of economic development, water scarcity, and an emerging eco-human health crisis. Hormones, pharmaceuticals and other endocrine- and neuro-active chemicals of natural and anthropogenic origin increasingly impact surface water, ground water, and drinking water. These chemicals can alter endocrine-mediation of perception, cognition, behavior, and other traits in humans and wildlife. Our discussions will investigate the ecological and evolutionary context for organismal responsiveness to exogenous endocrine-active signals and to relate this understanding to opportunities for environmental problem solving through water infrastructure investment. |
